The Gentlecare training course addressing socio-health operators involved in the CrossCare project will start on the 11th and 18th of April at Odu Koper; a second appointment is foreseen on the 24th and 29th of May. The goal is providing operators with innovative tools to deal with fragile elderly and people suffering from dementia or Alzheimer. For the first time, thanks to the Interreg V-A Italy-Slovenia programme, the Gentlecare methodology – already applied at the nursing homes managed by Itaca – will go beyond boundaries and reach elderly care services in Slovenia.
The training course is carried out in collaboration with the Ottima Senior group, representing the company Moyra Jones Resources Ltd responsible for the dissemination and implementation of the Gentlecare methodology in Italy and Europe. In addition to the meetings scheduled in Slovenia, the same number of courses is planned to take place in Friuli Venezia Giulia at the Protected Residence for Older People in Sacile respectively on the 29th of March and on the 10th and 30th of May.
Gentlecare will introduce innovative techniques and support the development of crossborder skills in the field of dementia and elderly care. Moreover, by using the same technical language, the training will promote cohesion and speed up the spreading and circulation of information.
Why Gentlecare?
Gentlecare is a prosthetic model of assistance aimed at older people suffering from dementia based on people, programs and physical space. The model is rooted on the theoretical concept according to which the person with dementia can improve its quality of life thanks to the positive feedback received from the surrounding living environment.
Starting from December 2013, the Social Cooperative Itaca has implemented an organizational strategy aiming at the adoption of the Gentlecare method in all the residential services managed in Friuli Venezia Giulia. On this direction, in 2013, Itaca opened up the second certified Gentlecare service in Friuli Venezia Giulia at the Protected Residence for Older People in Sacile, the so-called “Yellow Core”.
