On Thursday 12th December 2019, University of Trieste as lead partner of the MUSE project "Cross-border Collaboration for Energy Sustainable Sustainable University Mobility" organized a public event with the technical support of ALOT s.r.l. and the participation of Italian and Slovenian project partners

Named "Smart and sustainable mobility on a human scale" effectively summarizing one of the primary objectives of the project, the title anticipates the issues addressed during the lively afternoon of study and discussion at the Hotel Savoy in Trieste with the projects project managers, industry experts and local stakeholders in the transport and infrastructure sector.

The day began with a noon appointment at the headquarters of the University of Trieste for the inauguration of the project pilot coordinated by the Department of Engineering and Architecture: the photovoltaic station for charging electric vehicles. Part of a micro-grid connected to the local electricity network, the station will produce 20 kWh / day of clean electricity to recharge the electric vehicles of the Municipality of Trieste, some electric vehicles of students and employees of the University of Trieste and an e-vehicle electric leased by the University of Trieste.

At the ribbon-cutting celebration, the Director of the Department Ilaria Garofalo together with professors and project managers of the MUSE project Vanni Lughi and Alessandro Massi Pavan presented another strategic feature of the pilot: the charging station will not only produce electricity but also data concerning the production of the photovoltaic system and the behavior of those who will drive the leased car. The information processed will also be used to optimize the operation of cross-border charging systems, in continuity with the objectives of the MUSE project.

After the presentation, the participants reached the Hotel Savoy for a lunch break followed by a quick overview by Professor Lughi, Blaz Luin (University of Ljubljana) and Klemen Gostič (RRA-LUR Ljubljana) about the project guidelines document and the progress of the projects pilot included in MUSE planned activities.

The central theme of the afternoon "Energy and mobility: vision, planning and implementation between efficiency and integration" was separated in two debating areas fostering the interaction between public and speakers at the end of the many presentations. The first focus on MOBILITY addressed the topic through various aspects, from macro to micro: the presentation of the programmatic framework of mobility of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia by Sandro Chiandarini (Director of the Regional and Local Public Transport Service of RAFVG) and the strategy of transport development of the Republic of Slovenia until 2030, by Matjaž Vrčko (Head of the public transport division of the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Slovenia) were followed by a focus on the local context of Trieste, introduced by Giovanni Longo (Mobility Manager of University of Trieste). His presentation on the vision and results achieved for the sustainable mobility of the University of Trieste focusing on implementation and good practices was then followed by Giulio Bernetti (Director general of the urban planning department and Member of the System Authority Committee of the Port of Trieste) who spoke about Trieste traffic planning and university mobility. Romeo Danielis (professor at the University of Trieste) contribution of electric vehicles to low-emission mobility was then followed by a debate on the mobility topic with the contribution of the other speakers and the public.

The logical process of the second focus on ENERGY followed the same path, from global to local: the Slovenian and the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia energy programmatic framework were presented respectively by Rajko Leban (Administrative Director GOLEA Local Energetic Agency Nova Gorica) and Sebastiano Cacciaguerra (Director General of the RAFVG Environmental Management, Energy and Sustainable Development Center). Ilaria Garofalo and Luca Bertoni (Delegate for Energy and Energy Manager of University of Trieste) overviewed the vision, implementation of good practices and open questions on energy and saving of renewable energy of the University of Trieste. Alessandro Massi Pavan completed the picture by presenting the experience acquired by the department of the University of Trieste in the realization of the photovoltaic charging station pilot and then started a moment of debate with the other speakers and with the audience on the topics presented.

At the end of the discussion, the speakers were joined by Matej Gojčič (RRA-LUR), Roberto Gerin (Trieste Trasporti), Cristina Amirante (Councilor of the Municipality of Pordenone), representatives of the Municipality of Gorizia and Nova Gorica and by Sandro Chiandarini and Giulio Bernetti, former speakers in the focus on mobility, for the Round Table on the development of the Action Plan and of the Cross-border Community for Sustainable Mobility and of the Plexus University, moderated by Guido Piccoli (ALOT srl).

The stakeholders had eventually the opportunity to go into detail on some of the topics and get to know the other participants of this day of study on the theme of mobility, which ended with an aperitif offered by the University of Trieste. The public event therefore represented an extraordinary opportunity to bring professionals and experts in the mobility sector closer to the Trieste public, promoting both the dissemination of the objectives of the MUSE project and the goals achieved but mostly the beneficial impacts of sustainable, intelligent mobility. and on a human scale.
