On Wednesday, 30 March 2022, a public event, originally called the "Brussels Event", was held under the leadership of Unioncamere Veneto's partner (the Association of Chambers of  Veneto Region), as it was supposed to take place in the Belgian capital as a testament to the SECAP of real European importance. The aim of the event, which took place in English, was to present the results of the project at European level.
The event was led by prof. Marco Manzan from the University of Trieste.
Following an introductory speech by Massimo Canali, Director-General of the Central Directorate for Environmental Protection, Energy and Sustainable Development of the Autonomous Region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Nicolò Tudorov, representing the SECAP Lead Partner, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, presented the work program. The speaker was Ivana Kakafura from Golea, Slovenia's Slovenian partner, and Carlo Dall'Omo, a researcher at IUAV in Venice, highlighted the progress of the SECAP project in assessing the risk and vulnerability of the environment to climate change and the importance of cross-border mitigation strategies. , which strive to unify Italian and Slovenian policies of action.
Nikola Holodkov from the Area Science Park Research Center described in depth the impact on different sectors, citing the risk typology, exposure assessment and vulnerability calculation.
Črtomir Kurnik from the Lea agency pointed out the cooperation of many municipalities, which were offered support in the preparation of PAESC plans and the implementation of activities. Many Italian and Slovenian municipalities were included, namely the municipalities of Ajdovščina, Nova Gorica, Koper, Idrija, Pivka, Brezovica, Sacile, Brugnera, Polcenigo, Budoia, Caneva, Fontanafredda, Trieste and Devin.
Important and eloquent was the presence of David Cassanmagnago from the Covenant of Majors (CoM), who, after a brief description of the initiative, emphasized the growing approach to the project by Italian municipalities and the importance of maintaining a lively interest in environmental and spatial policies. resources and knowledge, as the SECAP project has commendably done. In addition to COM activities such as online workshops, expert missions, peer reviews, peer review programs, visibility initiatives t.i. “Twinning programs” and the promotion of national strategies with awards for the most effective results at the local level, Cassanmagnage presented the possibilities offered by the European Urban Facility (EUCF). The EUCF, set up under the European Union's Horizon 2020 framework program for research and innovation, will support municipalities, local authorities, groups and local public entities bringing together municipalities and local authorities in Europe with simplified financial support (in the form of lump sums). in the amount of EUR 60,000) and appropriate services to assist them in developing new investments for the implementation of activities under their climate and energy action plans.
This was followed by direct testimonies from the municipalities involved in the SECAP project, such as the testimony of Chiara Puntar, municipal councilor responsible for European projects at the Municipality of Devin-Nabrežina (It). According to her, PAESC, introduced by the municipality itself, is just the beginning of a long process that seeks to define and implement energy efficiency activities by adopting measures to adapt to climate change, and provide citizens with easier access to renewable energy sources and a safe and sustainable natural environment.
Prof. At the end of the intervention, Marco Manzan reminded that two volumes on strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation and a third additional volume containing guidelines with good practices for municipalities in the fight against climate change will be ready for publication shortly.
