17.10.2019. The contract was signed this morning between the EGTC GO and the company that will carry out construction work on the cycle and walkway on the Isonzo river in Salcano as part of the Isonzo-Soča project, funded by the Interreg V-A Program Italy-Slovenija 2014-2020. The signature was affixed in the presence of the mayors of the three founding municipalities of the European Grouping of territorial cooperation GECT GO- Rodolfo Ziberna, mayor of Gorizia, Klemen Miklavič, mayor of Nova Gorica, and Milan Turk, mayor of Šempeter-Vrtojba- and of the president of EGTC GO Matej Arčon. This is a particularly significant moment, both for the EGTC GO, and for the entire cross-border territory. The boardwalk on the Isonzo in Salcano is the largest of the infrastructural works envisaged by the Isonzo-Soča project, a project that involves the construction of a common cross-border network of cycle and pedestrian paths along the Isonzo river and along the state border that connects Salcano to Šempeter-Vrtojba. To achieve this, the EGTC GO, an italian public body, published a call for tenders in Slovenia, applying the Slovenian legislation, as had already happened, a few months before, for the construction of the recreational area of Vrtojba, which will be inaugurated in November. On that occasion, the EGTC GO was the first subject of Italian law to publish a tender in Slovenia applying the Slovenian legislation, after a complex administrative procedure. The signing of the contract for the construction of the pedestrian and pedestrian walkway on the Isonzo therefore represents above all the overcoming of legal and administrative barriers between states.
The EGTC GO was founded in 2011 by the Municipalities of Gorizia, Nova Gorica and Šempeter-Vrtojba to identify and face common challenges that can make the cross-border territory more competitive and attractive, and is an entity that has jurisdiction over the territory of the three cities: it can go beyond the borders and face, for the first time, the challenges of a cooperation that plans and carries out together, thinking no longer of three distinct Municipalities, but of a single cross-border city, with no more divisions.
The Isonzo-Soča project has a five-year duration (01.04.2017 - 31.03.2021) and has a budget of 5 million euros.
