The activities of the ENGREEN project also include the participatory planning process, which aims at the joint management of cross-border green infrastructures and the preparation of the guidelines. Each project partner organizes two participatory planning meetings (“focus groups”) with the involvement of different stakeholders. The second focus group organized by the municipality of San Dorligo della Valle-Dolina took place on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
The issue of restoration and better management of karst ponds, critical issues and potentials related to ponds were discussed at the meeting. At the first meeting, which took place on 16 November 2021, a conversation was held on the topic of ice houses.
A method called “World Café” was used. Participants, divided into groups, sit at different tables and discuss a specific topic under the guidance of moderators. They can move between different tables and contribute to other discussions. The session concludes with a plenary session, which presents critical issues, priorities and possible solutions that have come to the fore.
The work took place in the visitor center of the Val Rosandra Nature Reserve in Bagnoli della Rosandra-Boljunec. Among the 19 participants were experts biologists and natural science guides, representatives of project partners, the Natural History Museum of Trieste, the Association of the guardians of the ponds of the FVG region and the Slovenian Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage from Nova Gorica. The discussion was very fruitful and it was interesting to compare different methodologies in the approach to water protection and natural heritage. An afternoon guided tour of the pond at Babna Ograda in Basovizza was a pleasant conclusion to the working day.
