ECO-SMART: WEBINAR 10.06.2022

News

During the participation of ECO-SMART in the webinar of 10.06.2022, the final results of the procedure adopted in the study of payment systems for ecosystem services were presented.

The goal of the project was to create a methodology to promote the application of the PES, intended as a financial tool to implement the interventions necessary to increase the resilience of ecosystems in the Natura 2000 sites, providing a significant contribution to the protection and maintenance of the most vulnerable habitats threatened by climate change.

During the webinar, the habitats, ecosystem services and hazards present were communicated for each pilot site. The procedure that led to the identification of the most vulnerable ecosystem services, the identification of the PES and the related most appropriate adaptation measures to be applied, aimed at reducing negative impacts, was communicated.

During the webinar, the results of the PES simulation were highlighted which confirmed not only the validity of these financial instruments, but also innovative and atypical PES proposals, which change from site to site and which return a feasible and accessible tool for the conservation of biodiversity in the areas of the Natura 2000 network.

Agreements with stakeholders have been signed for each site.

During the webinar it was pointed out that each agreement was atypical and addressed local needs.
