The launch event of the project "TRAIN - BIG DATA and DISEASE MODELS: CROSS-BORDER PLATFORM OF KITS VALIDATED FOR THE BIOTECH INDUSTRY", funded within the Interreg VA Italy-Slovenia 2014-2020 program, took place at the ICGEB in Trieste on Tuesday 26 September.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the 6 project Partners, the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg V-A Italy Slovenia Program and the Central Health, Social and Healthcare Integration, Social Policies and Family Directorate of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

During the meeting Serena Zacchigna and Dr. Sašo Džeroski, respectively scientific coordinator of the project for the Lead Partner ICGEB (International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology) and the representative for the project partner Slovenian Institute "Jožef Štefan", illustrated the key aspects of the project that aims to create new synergies in the biomedical field to improve the diagnosis and therapy of various pathologies and to accelerate the transfer from research to industry, in line with the Europe 2020 Strategy and Smart Specialization strategies.

For the first time, cross-border skills in biomedicine and bio-informatics will be combined to create ready-to-use kits and tests that will be made available to biomedical companies to create new biopharmaceutical products. Clinical professionals, students and researchers, patients and health systems, and SMEs will benefit from the project. The representatives of the other Partners, Simona Vernon of the Ljubljana Technology Park (Tehnološki park Ljubljana d.o.o.), Irene Lasorsa of Biovalley Investments and Angelo De Bortoli of Experteam - then described their role in the project. The day continued with the technical session between the project partners aimed at setting the start of the planned activities.
