The kick off meeting of the standard project "TRAIN - BIG DATA and MODELS OF DISEASES: TRAINED KIT VALIDED FOR BIOTECH INDUSTRY", funded under the Program Interreg VA Italy-Slovenia 2014-2020 took place on September 26th, at the ICGEB in Trieste.

Representatives of the 6 Project Partners, the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg V-A Italy Slovenia Program and the Central Health, Social Affairs, Social Policies and Family Directorate of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region were present at the meeting.

During the meeting Serena Zacchigna, the coordinator of the project for the Lead Partner ICGEB (International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology), and Mr. Sašo Džeroski, representative of the Project Partner Slovenian Institute for Design Project "Jožef Štefan", presented the key aspects of the project aimed at creating new biomedical synergies to improve the diagnosis and therapy of various pathologies and to speed up the transfer from research to industry, in line with the Europe 2020 Strategy and Smart Specialization strategies.

For the first time, cross-border biomedicine and bio-computing skills will be combined to create ready-to-use kit and essays that will be made available to biomedical companies to create new biopharmaceutical products. Clinical professionals, students and researchers, patients and healthcare systems, and SMEs will benefit from this project. Representatives of other Project Partners, Simona Vernon of the Ljubljana Technology Park Ljubljana d.o.o., Irene Lasorsa of the Bielenley Investments and Angelo De Bortoli of the Experteam, then described their role in the project. The meeting  continued with the technical session, which involved all the Project Partners in order to set up the scheduled activities.
