PROJECT ENGREEN KICK OFF MEETING

The "kick off meeting" of the ENGREEN project was held in the Škocjanske jame regional park on Tuesday 23 June 2020 at the Pr Nanetovih Promotion and Congress Center in Matavun in Divača. Thje project started on the 1st of April.

The 4 partners of the project: Škocjan Caves Regional Park, the Municipality of San Dorligo della Valle- Dolina, Univerza na Primorskem-University of Littoral of Koper-Capodistria (Faculty of Mathematics, natural sciences and computer science), GAL Venezia Orientale-Vegal, with some of the 12 associated partners, finally had the opportunity to meet live to share and confirm the action plan, which had previously been agreed through a series of video meetings. The ENGREEN project focuses on activities to strengthen, restore, conserve and manage green infrastructures in the IT-SI cross-border landscape. During the meeting, the partners presented in detail the planned activities and the expected times for implementation.

Among other things, the project includes investments for the restoration of three ponds in the area of ​​the Škocjan Cave Park and an antic ice house with the pond in Draga in the area of ​​the Val Rosandra-Dolina Glinščica Nature Reserve. Particular attention will be paid to the mapping of the elements of green infrastructures, in particular wetlands, of the monitoring of animal and plant species, many of which are already heavily threatened. In favor of their conservation, some non-native species will be removed from the natural environment, e.g. Red fish.

It is also essential to schedule and organize at least 32 promotional events aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of a sustainable approach to nature. Educational seminars and art competitions are also planned.

The project collaboration will continue uninterrupted throughout the summer with the planning of the implementation of interventions for the restoration of green infrastructures, the collection of data on fauna and flora and the organization of the first promotional events.
