17th April 2018 – Municipality of Caorle

The Focus Group with local stakeholders of the MobiTour project - Sustainable mobility of coastal tourist areas and of cross-border hinterland (financed by the Interreg V-A Italy-Slovenia 2014-2020 Programme), has been organised in the pilot area of the Municipality of Caorle.

The main objective of MobiTour is the joint planning of sustainable mobility actions and strategies to promote the use of alternative means of transport and to reduce pollution, promoting a better connection between coastal areas and the hinterland. The project has started in October 2017 and will end in March 2020.

The Focus Group was attended by experts and technicians of the Municipality of Caorle, economic operators and local associations. Participants had the opportunity to identify the main challenges for sustainable mobility in the pilot area, the needs of residents, tourists and citizens, and possible actions/strategies to promote sustainable mobility, both at local, inter-municipal and cross-border level.

The main challenge identified by stakeholders is linked to infrastructures, given the scarcity of access points to the Municipality. Moreover, participants stressed the need to support the active involvement of citizens, economic operators and tourism operators for future actions and strategies in the field of sustainable mobility. Furthermore, was highlighted the need to promote a coordinated and efficient communication, both in tourism promotion and awareness raising activities.

The results of the Focus Group will be used to prepare a questionnaire for end-users of sustainable mobility services (citizens and tourists). Research activities will be the basis for the development of solutions and systems in the field of sustainable mobility in project pilot areas, namely: Škocjan Caves Park, Municipality of Piran, Lipica, Municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro, Municipality of Caorle.

"We signed the partnership agreement last November – explains the Councilor for Tourism Alessandra Zusso - and the activities planned within the project will be launched shortly. The focus group of last week was attended by the most relevant actors of the area. It was an important moment of dialogue, which will be followed by a questionnaire addressed to citizens and tourists. In fact, we have identified the main critical issues and needs of the territory and hypothesized some solutions. MobiTour is a great opportunity for our Municipality: we are sure that end-users will understand it and will also contribute in the research activities foreseen".
