On Tuesday, 7th January 2020, a meeting was held in Miren with the Slovenian partners on the VISFRIM project (Vipava/Vipacco and Other Transboundary River Basins Flood Risk Management), co-funded under the Interreg Italy-Slovenia program 2014-2020. The representatives of all five participating municipalities were present (Municipality of Miren-Kostanjevica, Municipality of Šempeter-Vrtojba, Municipality of Vipava, Municipality of Postojna, Municipality of Nova Gorica), together with the Slovenian Environmental Agency and the Slovenian Water Agency. The purpose of the meeting was to present the investments envisaged by the project, review of the communication plan, and defining the content for the first workshop: Observatory of Citizens for Flood Risk Management.
As part of the project, some structural flood mitigation works are already underway: specifically the construction of an anti-flood wall in Grabec, near Miren, and an embankment near Vipava, in Prvačina. Further works in the Čukelj and Zapučk area (municipality of Šempeter-Vrtojba) are planned to start in March.
