ARTE - REGENERATIVE MEDICINE THERAPIES FOR OSTEOARTHRITIS

Events

Regenerative medicine (RM) is having a strong development and is rapidly spreading globally.

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) affects millions of people in Europe with improved mobility possible only through knee arthroplasty, a surgical procedure. Fat-derived stem cells could prove to be a better solution. The seminar aims to introduce the current state-of-the art for Regenerative Medicine in Slovenia and results of the clinical studies undertaken under the ADIPOA project financed by the EU Horizon 2020 programme under the scientific direction of prof. Frank Barry (REMEDI – Regenerative Medicine Institute Ireland, National University Ireland, Galway).

Similar studies will soon start at OB – VALDOLTRA and at the Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Integrata Udine with the support of the ARTE INTERREG Programme Italy - Slovenia.

As the RM therapies market is growing very fast, potentially benefitting large populations of patients, an important opportunity is opening up for innovative SMEs. New devices and systems, as well as new services, are needed to make such therapies accessible to patients. A key aim of ARTE Partners is also to support entrepreneurs and private investments in this novel sector.
