The earth’s surface temperature rise is strongly affecting all natural systems. The earth’s rapid climate change is caused by the anthropogenic emission of Green-House Gas (GHG) in the atmosphere, primarily due to energy production and consumption activities. Substantial GHG reductions in the next decades might curb the Earth’s surface temperature rise and reduce its impact, but well-planned systematic and intersectoral mitigation strategies, and international cooperation and collaboration actions are required. However, also in this case, the effects of the Earth’s surface and climate changes will be seen in the years to come. Therefore, there is a strong need to implement strategies at a local level specific to various situational contexts at play.
A first result of the SECAP Project in this respect is the preparation of a detailed analysis of the energy and climate context of the program area, to which the project refers.
The objective of the document, titled “Preliminary context analysis” is to provide readers with basic information, taken from the available literature on the subject, to draft a mitigation and locally adjusted strategy, thus supporting and facilitating the Municipalities in the shift from the Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) to the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP). In particular, the document is comprised of the following parts:
Area Science Park, University of Studies of Trieste, Lokalna energetska agencija Gorenjske, and Metropolitan City of Venice are the entities, which have actively contributed to this deliverable. The Friuli-Venezia Giulia Regional Environmental Protection Agency and Regionalna razvojna agencija Ljubljanske urbane regije have contributed to the document revision and supplementation.
